So, about this book review...
I applied and feel lucky to have been chosen to read an advance copy of "The Wolf That Chews Rocks", which I received while on holiday this summer. So, between the scorching heat and the dog climbing into our bed and waking me 3 times a night because of his snoring, I was lucking able to find quality, calm, morning time to concentrate on the reading.
This was somewhat interrupted by Winston barking at things that weren't there, or that didn't make sense to be barked at.
The more I read, the more I related to what I was reading.
I got barked at for laughing out loud and spilling my coffee on more occasions than I can actually remember. Fortunately, the kids are heavy sleepers and the earplugs stopped my wife from getting (too) annoyed with me.
There was a moment when the owner's cat seemed to have left us both a present. For me it was a crazy coincidence in what i was reading, combined with the "thank crap I haven't eaten anything yet or I'd be puking". For Winston it was a two-legged mouse (the back legs only) with a trail of tiny rodent intestines in the place where the top half of the body and head would usually be.
He scooped it up and ran off, daring to glance back one in a "Don't even think about it, mate" look at me.
So, I was able to finish the book off with my pawed friend almost behaving.
To be perfectly honest with you, I could have finished it off in one go. The book, not the half-mouse horror prop. Funny thought though, because from the first taste I wanted to run off with it in my hand and consume it in one sitting. Just as the half-mouse was for my own wolf, this book was a wonderful treat that a friend from afar had dropped into my jaws hands.
OK, I'm rambling. Get back to the point !
I recommend this book without a second thought. Buy it for somebody you know, if you don't have a dog. Buy it for you and buy another for someone else, if you DO have a dog.
I was gifted the E-book and I'm damn certain (Russ, you don't need to believe my words on this, actions are what count) I'll be buying myself a hard-copy. If the world ends and we lose electricity, i want to be able to read this book again and again. Up yours, apocalypse! at least i'll be laughing and will have great company!
